Viking Tales
Bald Mountain Theater presents an original adaptation of Viking Tales, a classic boys’ tale from 1902 by Jennie Hall. Based on Norse mythology and sagas, it is a story of a young boy raised to be a King of Vikings. Swords will slash, shields will clash, ships will lock in deadly battle, and the gods may be watching.
Director Ethan Bowen says, “I wanted to create an ensemble cast of non-traditional actors for the roles of Vikings to add nuance and fun to this classically masculine story. We’re playfully asking the question, ‘Why do we like Vikings so much?” This dynamic, family-friendly production is filled with songs and stage combat. It is an epic tale that can only be told with the humor and bootstrap gumption that BMT is known for.
Drawing from the deep well of the region’s local talent, Killian White starred as Harald Halfdansson, the young upstart king, and was joined by Tristan Rich-Goding, Samantha Augustus, Kate Truini, Robert Melik Finkle, Toby Mueller-Medlicott, Patrick Smith, and Kinsey Moyer, with costumes by Mindy Branstetter and music by Justine Cavacas.
Bald Mountain Theater specializes in developing archetypal stories and fairy tales into theatrical productions that surprise and challenge our audiences to see these stories in a new light. Our touring productions of Hansel and Gretel and Puss in Boots were met with enthusiastic responses in towns across Vermont. Our home base production series Stories You Should Know; There Once Was; and Stories with Sound at Spice Studio in Rochester, allow us to dig deep into the story canon.
